We work hard to get every story right, but when we make a mistake we correct it promptly, clearly and transparently. Owning our errors is part of earning our readers’ trust.

How to report an error

If you spot a factual error, a misquote, a wrong name or a misleading headline, email ghananews78@gmail.com or use our contact page. Please include the link to the story, what is wrong, and any evidence that helps us check it. You do not need to give your name, but contact details help us follow up.

What happens next

  1. An editor reviews every correction request, usually within one working day.
  2. We check the claim against our reporting and the original sources.
  3. If we got it wrong, we fix the story as soon as the error is confirmed.
  4. We reply to let you know what we decided.

How corrections appear

  • Corrections: when a significant fact was wrong, we fix it and add a note at the end of the story explaining what was changed and when — for example: “Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated the date of the meeting. It was held on Tuesday, not Monday.”
  • Clarifications: when a story was accurate but could be misunderstood or lacked important context, we add the context and a clarification note.
  • Updates: developing stories are updated as new information arrives. These are marked as updates and the story’s “Updated” time changes; they are not corrections.
  • Minor fixes: spelling, grammar or formatting fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note.

We do not quietly change the substance of a story without telling readers. Serious errors are also corrected on our social media channels where the story was shared.

Requests to remove or change stories

Our archive is a record of what we reported. We do not remove or rewrite accurate stories because they are embarrassing or inconvenient. We will consider updating, anonymising or removing a story in exceptional cases — for example, where there is a risk to someone’s safety, where a person was a minor at the time, or where criminal charges were later dropped and we can add that outcome. Each request is decided by a senior editor.
